Eat Right to Feel Right
Everyone at some stage of their life will make a choice to eat or at least try to eat healthier. Sounds simple enough in theory, but when you go to the supermarket to buy food you may find you have no idea what is and what is not healthy.
Businesses market their products towards us knowing that more and more people are turning to healthier options. Low fat this, no carb that, it all can become very confusing. So let us shine some light onto this issue.
Tip #1
If less people have handled the food, the better it will be for you.
Unprocessed foods straight from mother earth herself are full of the natural vitamins, minerals and energy sources the body needs. If we followed an orange down its possible fates we may find something like this:
The Lucky Orange - Freshly picked orange:
Full of vitamin C, low density carbohydrate food (less calories), contains fibre which gives the feeling of being fuller and helps with regulating the digestive system.
The Good Orange - Juiced at Home:
Still fresh with all the benefits, less fibre and vitamin C if the pulp is removed, the option of added sugar to sweeten the juice (adding the sugar increases the simple carbohydrates which boost the calorie count).
The Ok Orange - Juice from the cold section:
These juices tend to come in a few options such as with or without pulp. With a bit of searching you should be able to find one that is freshly squeezed with little to no preservatives and little to no added ingredients. But if you just grabbed any, chances are your serving will have less fibre, less natural vitamins and a lot more calories.
The Unlucky Orange – Juice from the tetra juice section:
These unfortunate oranges are barely oranges anymore. These juices have long shelf life because of the added preservatives, they may even have artificial flavouring and in most cases the oranges are reconstituted meaning they were broken down frozen and later water was added to it (MmMm delicious). So needless to say the health benefits from this juice are minimal.
